It reduces greenhouse emissions because less energy is needed to generate new materials. It lessens the demand on landfills. It conserves products that would otherwise be used to generate or fabricate new items. The benefits of recycling scrap are well worth the minor inconvenience whether they are financial benefits, environmental benefits, or both.
